Regattas Regattas are held for canoeing each year at ‘District’ ‘Area’ and ‘National’ level. The aim of the regatta is to complete races in the quickest time. Each competitor races for themselves (to win medals) and for a team (scoring points which add up for the team trophies). There are normally four teams:
District Regatta - Junior teams race 400m sprints and a 1 mile marathon, Senior teams race over 800m and do a 2 mile marathon. All competitors score points towards district trophies which go to the winning teams unit. All races are run in single Kayaks. Area Regatta - The teams for ‘Area’ are made up of the best paddlers from all the units that competed in the ‘District’ regatta. The same races are run, however Double Kayaks are also raced. National Regatta - The ‘Area’ team going to nationals is made up from the best paddlers from the ‘Area’ competition. At nationals the same races are run plus relay races.
